Our History

Universal Title and its affiliated companies have been conducting real estate settlements in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia since the late 1970s. Founded by David V. Mason, the Company has always placed an emphasis on being a leader in the industry by providing first-rate service supported by the best available technology. In the mid 2000s he was joined by his daughter Jennifer Mason Halsted and son David K. Mason, who together now lead the daily operations of the Company.

Over the course of its more than forty-year history, Universal Title has assisted its clients with almost every aspect of the real estate settlement. In addition to the routine and familiar residential transaction, Universal Title has also assisted its clients in more complex transactions including 1031 tax-deferred exchanges, short sales, complicated sales out of estates, contract-for-deeds, and many more. Today, Universal Title is supported by over twenty real estate attorneys who have an even broader depth of experience in topics ranging from representing homeowners associations, lenders in foreclosure, or parties in litigation. All of this experience is drawn upon to deliver the highest level of service to our clients during their real estate settlement.

Since 2010 Universal Title has expanded its presence throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Over this period of time we have grown from one office in Northern Virginia, to a network of offices capable of serving our clients from Central Virginia to northern Maryland. Despite this expansion, however, the family-first culture of a family-owned and operated company continues to run deep.
